The only stipulations are to "have fun" and "sign your name," and she promises not to read it until the end of the month. As the children begin to express themselves, alliances and rivalries develop. Personalities are revealed: rule-maker Lizzy; her peacemaker sidekick, Yoshiko; class clown Luke; and organizer/self-proclaimed editor Milton contribute to the journal and illustrate their handwritten entries. As the boys' bathroom humor escalates against the girls' pleas to write only "nice things," a rebellion in words develops. After the journal is "kidnapped," the classmates realize that their writing has become hurtful, and Luke suggests that they all contribute to a story to end the month's entries without any hard feelings. This seemingly disingenuous tale is carefully planned. It is no surprise that Ms.
Do you people even understand the issue?
Every government has failed with this portfolio. But Harper and crew have made the worst mistakes of all of them. Setting aside any issues of negligence and dereliction of duty, Harper's making this into a purely partisan attack on a civil servant - and the wrong one at that - is what makes the whole issue so foul. This is driven by pure ideology. But here's the best part: Harper's ideology and pettiness has cost him a tremendous opportunity to make his government look really good, the previous adminstration look really bad and present himself as a protector of the public interest. And he could even have built up some goodwill with the public service. This failure demonstrates that Harper and the CPC are unfit to govern. Anything. Loonie surpasses $1.10 US
The Canadian dollar continued its lofty flight as it passed $1.10 US on Wednesday while the U.S. dollar continued to weaken. Shortly after the start of trading in North America, the loonie was up more than 1.75 cents at $1.1027 US. The U.S. dollar continued to lose ground against other currencies. The greenback fell to another record low of $1.4703 US against the euro, while the British pound hit $2.1051 US, a level not seen since since May 1981. The latest of advance of the loonie will most likely send economists back to the drawing board to redo their forecasts for the dollar. The currency has appreciated much faster than many observers had been expecting. The Canadian dollar regained parity with the U.S. greenback in September. The loonie has been setting new records since Oct.
Ottawa redirects AIDS funds for Gates initiative
OTTAWA Federal funding for community AIDS programs in Ontario is being slashed as the Conservative government readjusts overall spending and redirects money to an AIDS vaccine initiative it announced earlier this year with Bill Gates. Money that helps prevent local organizations stem the spread of the virus and provide support to those infected is being reduced by 30 per cent across the province in this fiscal year. .
Democrats Are Hocking Their Agenda As If They Were at a Fire Sale
At the weekend, well over 100,000 anti-war protesters gathered around the country to protest about the occupation of Iraq. The demands of the demonstrations chimed with the views of most Americans. Polls show a consistent and substantial majority oppose the war and want the troops withdrawn immediately or soon. Indeed, at 34%, the proportion of Americans who support the war is identical to the proportion polled last week who believe in ghosts and UFOs. Despite Iraq remaining the number one priority among voters, none of the leading Democratic presidential contenders appeared at any of the marches. Primary season is an ideal moment to examine the relationship between the different parties and their core supporters. Come the presidential elections, both sides will have to tack to the centre in a bid for coveted swing voters.
Healing through music and nature
She also has sung for her supper on the streets of New Orleans. And now, Fae lives in a yurt and works on a farm on the San Juan Ridge, milking goats for a living. It's in such contrasts that Fae's art and healing both are rooted. Once trained by the dean of the Hartford Conservatory of Music, Fae now wakes up at dawn, makes her coffee on a wood stove, then spends her day feeding chickens, goats and rabbits. She milks four goats and feeds a newborn kid with its mother's milk in a bottle. "I intend to live close to the earth for the rest of my life," Fae said. "It's the responsibility of our generation to protect the earth and seek ways to live in harmony with our Mother Earth." In her modest home, Fae has altars to Lakshmi, Green Tara, Aphrodite and Isis - forms of the divine feminine from different cultures.
Campaigns scramble for support in Nevada's new caucus territory
LAS VEGAS — The fight for top-billing in Saturday's Nevada Democratic presidential caucus has become much like its model in Iowa: an hour-by-hour test of who has the best organization. But unlike Iowa, Nevada never really has done this before, and not on the scale an early caucus date requires. No one knows for sure what the best organization should look like in a state with two major population centers and vast stretches of desert in between. .
